AuthAnvil Windows Logon Agent Implementation Guide now available!

For those customers who are deploying strong authentication with AuthAnvil to their Windows XP workstations and Windows Server 2003 servers, today we have released the first draft of the AuthAnvil Windows Logon Agent Implementation Guide.

It provides detailed instructions on how to install, configure and uninstall the agent in a Windows desktop or server environment. It even includes instructions on how to manage the Active Directory Security Groups and AuthAnvil Override passwords in those scenarios where certain users may not require an authentication token.

You can download this document directly from the AuthAnvil Content Library here.

If you have any comments or feedback on this draft, please feel free to email Amber Walsh at amber@scorpionsoft.com. We appreciate any and all feedback on this working document.

Dana Epp to speak at the SMB Security Summit

Featuring some of the world's most respected SMB Security experts, this event focuses on how SMB IT Resellers understand customer security requirements, design solutions to respond to determined threats, and sell and implement end solutions. SBSfaq.com in conjunction with Trend Micro are hosting this free community event in Sydney, Australia on November 23, 2007.

You can find more information and register for the event at http://events.sbsfaq.com/2007SMBSS.aspx.

I will be there speaking in various trackings. Susan Bradley and I will be teaming up to discuss risk analysis and how security is perceived and understood at the customer level. I will then speak later in the day with Wayne Small and discuss some of the technical aspects of implementing security, and explore the tools and technical safeguards that exist out there to help reduce risk to acceptable levels for your customers.

Included in that will be discussion about strong authentication and identity assurance. Time permitting, I may even show how we protect our own deployment of Trend Micro's Security Dashboard with AuthAnvil, demonstrating how layered security can effectively reduce management risk to web applications. Nothing beats having the assurance that you know WHO is accessing critical services that provide the management to the security capabailities of all servers and workstations on the network. You can get that assurance when using the AuthAnvil Web Logon Agent to protect your Security Dashboard. Just one of the new agents that is coming with Version 1.5 of AuthAnvil, due out at the end of the month.

So if you are in Sydney on November 23rd, you really should come out. Along side of the presentations I am giving there are several other excellent experts like Amy Babinchak, Eriq Neale, Dean Calvert and Ryan Spillane who will demonstrate issues and solutions in the SMB Security space.

See you there!
